In 1953 at the age of 15, Victor Greenslade left the quiet North Devon town of South Molton to
take up a career in carpentry and joinery, studying for 18 months at
St. Loyes College, Exeter. He moved on to Devon Concretes,
producing various timber shuttering moulds, where he completed his
apprenticeship.
With an appetite to learn, he moved to gain industrial site
experience in and around Birmingham - on projects such as the BBC
Station at Gloucester Green; Birmingham University and the
construction of the Bull Ring Public House.
At the age of 26, Vic Greenslade formed a working partnership
with Wilfred Webber, naming the company 'Webber & Greenslade'.
This partnership continued until 1978 where both parties decided to
go their separate ways - not before working on some prestige
properties including; Wortham Manor, Dunsland House, and Combe
Valley Village. For the next 13 years Vic Greenslade operated
as a Sole Trader. During this period, his youngest son Christopher,
was taking a keen interest in all forms of restoration.

In 1990, Vic Greenslade & Son - Carpentry & Joinery was
formed after his youngest son, Christopher, studied at Hull College
of Further Education. During this period Chris gained invaluable
restoration knowledge and experience from his father.
Unfortunately Mr. Greenslade Snr. had a short term of poor health
resulting in his taking a well-earned respite.
In 1995, after continued interest from potential clients
requiring complete property renovations/restoration, Vic Greenslade
& Son - Building Contractors was formed - run by the son, Chris
Greenslade. This company has continued to thrive and grow,
despite a tough and competitive market. The company now
specialises in cob work and lime renders - accredited by the
Plymouth School of Architecture and Plymouth University, placing
themselves on conservation and County/District Authority lists for
specialist works.
Since the millennium
Chris has taken the hard decision to trade under his own name, but his father,
Vic Greenslade, continues to influence the company in all aspects
ensuring it's well-deserved reputation for high quality is
maintained.
